How to apply

To participate in the program you will need to contact a Job Active and be registered as a job seeker with that Job Active. You will attend an information session about the program and be invited to attend a Screening and Assessment Centre (SAC) as a precurser to the program where you will be required to undertake a medical/ physical assessment and participate in team building/communication activities to ensure you meet employers needs.

Before you apply make sure you understand all the requirements of the program:


  • You must be Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent
  • Be an existing client of a Job Active
  • Attend Monday to Friday from 9am until 2pm everyday for 8 weeks
  • Participate in individual Medical and Fitness Assessments
  • Undertake daily Personal Health and Well-being Training 3 days a week
  • Be prepared to undertake Drug and Alcohol testing for the duration of the program

Who can apply

Anyone who identifies as a Job Seeker, Long-term unemployed and at risk/disengaged youth.

Selection process

Once you have completed the Screening and Assessment Centre and depending on the outcome you will then be offered a placement to undertake a eight (8) week Pathways to Employment Program (PEP) to prepare yourself for Entry Level Employment.

This program is unique and very different from the others out there available. The selection of individuals to be part of the program is not based on ability but your commitment to making a change in your life and employment status. Spaces are limited to 20 people per 8 week program and it is important that if you are invited to be part of the program that you are committed to ensuring you complete the program. You will also walk away with 2 compulsory units of at Certificate III in Business and if you are eligible after the completion of the program you may wish to complete the other units to obtain the full certificate which can be arranged and funded through your Job Active. Your Job Active will at the beginning or throughout the program will have been working with the staff at Matera Foundation and identified an employment opportunity for you. That job will be your only once you have completed the program in full.
